About us and pastoral staff

Grandview Church of the Nazarene

Grandview Church of the Nazarene was started in 1953 and our first location was on the corner of 8th and Goode Street in Grandview. We have been at our current location on the corner of 15th Street and Highgrove since 1963. Our guiding vision statements or how we participate in God's mission to make Christlike disciples in the nations are- "To be a visible sign of Christ's presence and love to the people of the community and to the world." and "We believe in the importance of praying in unity for all people- in the church, the community, nation and world."

The "Nazarene" we mean is "Jesus Christ of Nazareth"- the One attested to us by God with deeds of power, wonders and signs, who was handed over to be crucified and killed, who God raised from the dead and made both Lord and Messiah (Acts 2.22-36 3.6). J.P. Whitney suggested that the "lowly, toiling mission of Jesus of Nazareth" was the church's mission and suggested the name Church of the Nazarene.

The mission of the Church of the Nazarene is to make Christlike disciples in the nations. For information about the history, core values, articles of faith and mission of the Church of the Nazarene go to http://nazarene.org/about-nazarenes

Pastor's greeting

Blessings to you and welcome! My name is Eric Forgrave and my beautiful wife Beth and our four children (Levi, Julia, Joanna and Joy) live in Grandview. I have been the pastor here since January 2009. I was also the youth pastor here before that for 7 years. I'm confident you will find the information you are looking for on this website, yet you clicked on the "about us" page. Maybe out of curiosity or to see what my family looked like or to simply read the greeting or to see what I would say about the church. All perfectly good reasons, but I have no doubt that some, maybe you, are looking for something, anything that would lead you to believe that Grandview Church of the Nazarene is a place where you could belong and where you could encounter the living Jesus. It is no accident. God is at work in all of our lives drawing us to Himself. God is at work in you! I pray for you even as I write this and hope that you will find a church home where you can grow, serve, build relationships and worship God either ours or another church that proclaims Jesus as Lord. Grace and peace of Christ to you, Pastor Eric Forgrave
