Grandview Church of the Nazarene was started in 1953 and our first location was on the corner of 8th and Goode Street in Grandview. We have been at our current location on the corner of 15th Street and Highgrove since 1963. Our guiding vision statements or how we participate in God's mission to make Christlike disciples in the nations are- "To be a visible sign of Christ's presence and love to the people of the community and to the world." and "We believe in the importance of praying in unity for all people- in the church, the community, nation and world."
The "Nazarene" we mean is "Jesus Christ of Nazareth"- the One attested to us by God with deeds of power, wonders and signs, who was handed over to be crucified and killed, who God raised from the dead and made both Lord and Messiah (Acts 2.22-36 3.6). J.P. Whitney suggested that the "lowly, toiling mission of Jesus of Nazareth" was the church's mission and suggested the name Church of the Nazarene.
The mission of the Church of the Nazarene is to make Christlike disciples in the nations. For information about the history, core values, articles of faith and mission of the Church of the Nazarene go to http://nazarene.org/about-nazarenes
